Master Hercules Baptista

Master Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Red / Black Belt (7th Degree)

Hercules Baptista is Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s Master.  He is a second generation 7th Degree Red / Black Belt.  He originally achieved his black belt in 1978.  Along with being a Master in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Hercules also holds a PE degree and is a Physical Therapist.

Master Hercules currently lives in Rio De Janeiro with his wife and two kids where he continues to train some of the world’s great Jiu-Jitsu students at Hercules Jiu-Jitsu.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Professor Miriam Cardoso

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Professor, Black Belt (2nd Degree)

Miriam Cardoso is a 5-time World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion. Raised in Brazil, she trained under masters Hercules Baptista and Carlos Gracie Jr. Miriam began her training at age 15 in 2001 and after 3 months of training she won Nationals! She won Nationals 7 times after that and in 2002 she began competing at the world level – taking second place in her first appearance. In 2004 her world-winning career launched, taking first place 5 times over the next 4 years. Along the way in 2007 she obtained her black belt. In 2011 she obtained her first degree black belt and started her own academy in Redmond, Washington – Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Redmond.

Professor John George

Head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Professor, Black Belt

John George is a Veteran of  the United States Military, and a father of three. He served 8 years in the Air Force from March, 2001 to July, 2009. After serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Professor John set out to train with, and learn from the biggest names in MMA, BJJ and Muay Thai.

Professor John is now, also, a veteran of MMA, Muay Thai KickBoxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) competition. Since he started training, John has earned multiple Jiu-Jitsu medals, 2 Regional Muay Thai Championship Belts, and a Unified Mixed Martial Arts 155lbs Championship Belt. He trained Muay Thai and MMA under Master Raphael Cordeiro and UFC/Pride legend, Wanderlei Silva. John holds a Black Belt in TangSooDo Karate, a Black Belt in American Self Defense System, and a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
John joined the coaching staff at Wand Fight Team, where in 2010, the gym was named “Best Gym in the World” by Fighters Only Magazine. After winning titles in Muay Thai, MMA, and BJJ, John trained and instructed under Professor Miriam Cardoso at Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Redmond before opening his own academy, Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Wilmington.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach, Blue Belt

Coach Val began her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training after years of training in other Martial Arts. After Val and her sister began training BJJ, they saw that women are as effective at BJJ as men, and they were hooked! They set their sights on training and progressing through the ranks together.

Coach Val has been inspired by the women that compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. Val already has an impressive resume in BJJ competition, but strives to compete in high level MMA as well. She currently trains BJJ, MMA and Muay Thai, and is excited to continue training and teaching at Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Wilmington.

Professor John is a veteran of  Muay Thai KickBoxing and MMA competition. Since he started training, John has earned a 155lbs championship belt in MMA and 2 Regional Muay Thai Championship Belts, in 2 different weight classes. He has trained Muay Thai and MMA  under Master Raphael Cordeiro and UFC/Pride legend, Wanderlei Silva.

Wrestling Coach/Assistant MMA Coach

Coach Josh has been wrestling since first grade, competing in, and winning wrestling tournaments until early adulthood. After wrestling, Josh went on to a long, successful Mixed Martial Arts career. Josh was previously ranked 14th in the world in MMA at his weight class, fighting some of the top names in the UFC. He still trains and competes in MMA and brings a wealth of knowledge to the mats at Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Wilmington.
